Camping at the airport is permitted in the small campground area ONLY, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Camping is NOT permitted in the terminal building (overnight stays in the terminal are permitted in the Pilot Lounge only, and only for pilots who are prevented from departing the island due to weather or mechanical issues).

Please do not park or tie-down your airplane in the grass near the campsite, or on the taxiways for the hangars. Airplane parking and tie-down is only permitted in the grassy area around the airport terminal building apron.

There is a small fire pit, privy, and access to a well on the west side of the terminal building for drinking water. The hand pump well and 5-gallon bucket near the camp site can be used to fully extinguish your campfire. There is no electricity at the campsite.

A burn permit is required prior to having a campfire. Call the BBI FD at 231-634-7085 to obtain a permit from the on-call firefighter. Never leave a fire unattended, and FULLY extinguish it before leaving.

Please be sure to take all trash with you upon departure, and clean the site before you depart. If needed, the BBI Transfer Station is available for your use.
